20 July 1112
After defeating the Tentacled Horrors that had just killed Asheron Coyl, Ash heads off to summon the local constables. The remainder of the party interrogate a group of servants who were hiding in the house. They report that a “well-dressed gentleman” delivered the painting about an hour ago – and that he had other paintings with him (apparently destined for other victims).
Shortly thereafter, Freyrik and Líkami arrive and the party decides they do not have the luxury of waiting for Ash's return before following the trail of the “well-dressed gentleman”.
The trail leads to the home of Belfor Vittanis – who is currently hosting a large party. As Belfor is about to open a wrapped painting, the party barges in to stop him. In the end, guests are trampled, bouncers are alerted, and general chaos and havoc are released. However, the party succeeds in reaching Belfor and stopping him from opening the painting.
The servants here report that the “well-dressed gentleman” (who they now know is Darius Finch) left the party with two other packages in a carriage belonging to Lady Tillanda. From a painting in Belfor's gallery, the party deduces that the next target is probably Eleazonna Gertwright – another patron of the arts.
At the home of Eleazonna Gertwright, they battle an Invisible Stalker – just as it kills Darius Finch! From the carriage driver, they learn that Darius had just delivered a package to Endrik Archerus – so they rush headlong toward his home.
They find that the painter took the package to his study – but when they barge in, they find the place empty and the delivered painting sitting harmlessly on an easel. In their investigation, Freyrik touches the painting and vanishes!
Heilli and Líkami quickly smash the painting – but soon learn that all they have done is trap Freyrik inside. Allie runs back to the carriage to retrieve the two other magical paintings – hoping that one or more might also be some kind of gate.
Meanwhile, Ketamine uses her Make Whole spell to repair the painting – and since the magic aura is still fresh, the spell amazingly restitches itself!
Yosi, Heilli and Líkami go through the painting – as Allie returns with the paintings. She opens one and releases three Fiendish Dire Apes, but Ketamine manages to calm them down to keep them from smashing the place to pieces.
Inside the painting, the party defeat a pait of Chain Devils and a painted Night Hag. Once all three are killed, the extra-dimensional space collapses and ejects everybody (including Endrik Archerus) are released into the real world.
Endrik Archerus, based on the contents of a cover letter that came with the painting, has already deduced who is responsible for the deliveries – a wizard/painter named Imron Gauthfallow.
The party prepares to make one more visit…
