31 October 1108
The party discovers an ominous feature of Prison Plane 121 when the Slaadi they just finished killing rise up as undead. In the ensuing battle, Roderick loses control of his mace, Salinthine, and recklessly attacks! Pavo manages to knock it out of his hands and after the battle, Bigby places it in his bag of holding to keep it from further influencing the party.
Shortly thereafter, the party encounters five Blue Slaadi. While they are victorious (and mange to destroy the bodies enough to keep them from rising as undead), it is clear they must retreat back across the front lines to “safety” or the next battle will not go so well.
After a brief rest, the party begins discussing plans to speed their journey to the gate. However, they soon learn that all forms of flight and wind control do not work as expected. In the end, they can find no reasonable means to get to their destination any faster than they can on foot.
Because of this, Vincent decides to go back into Slaadi territory alone. His hope is to survive long enough to learn more about the Slaadi gate and make it back to the party alive. To this end, Bigby polymorphs him into a Blue Slaad (in the hopes that he will not be attacked on sight). However, the spell lasts only a few minutes and he reverts to his normal form before that theory is tested.
Soon after, though, he encounters a shape-changed Githzerai named Ust'olda who, it turns out, is on a similar mission! The two return to the encampment to share what they know with the rest of the party.
