Twentieth session - 24 October 2003 - Lost in the Ether
(Previous Session) (Back to Voyager Index) (Next Session)
Four of six players in attendance:
The four adventurers run through the Slaad's magical tunnel and find themselves floating in the gravity-free environment of the ethereal plane! The lack of a solid ground throws them off, and they take several seconds to realize that movement in this realm is accomplished by mind power, not by muscle power.
Despite this disadvantage, they party presses the attack on the Slaad holding Roderick. Eventually, they manage to subdue the creature and bind him. However, their attempts to parlay with the beast are fruitless and because it regenerates quite rapidly, they are forced to kill it. Their hopes of having it open a tunnel back to the real world are dashed.
While stuck on the ethereal plane, the party explores the area and meets the ghost of Anevay, the sister of a king from 150 years ago. She is quite insane and is convinced that the palace is hers and that the party are evil usurpers here to take her power. Rather than fight her, the party opts to leave the palace to her.
Away from the palace, they meet two other ghosts - but these two are friendly and have an unusual attraction to Roderick. They claim to be the parents of a boy named Lashmere and ask Roderick is he will be taking care of their son now. When Roderick agrees, they are relieved and are able to leave this realm and go on to their final destination.
The next day, May 24th, Roderick summons a Lesser Planar Ally as their last hope of getting home. A Janni named Apenimon appears and agrees to return Roderick and the others back to the material plane if he agrees to seek out Cale after his current battle is complete. When Roderick agrees, Apenimon uses his plane shift power to return the party to the material plane.
However, as Janni prefer drier climates, Apenimon chose to return the party to the high desert far north of Meli, where the rest of the party is. They are still stranded, but at least now it is on the “real” world.
