Manabane
(Origin unknown)
This strange sword is of no use unless the target is a magic-based creature or a magic spell. The sword itself resembles a longsword, but has a simple gray blade which looks from a distance to be rather dull. However, the blade is noncorporeal and passes easily through any solid object. Its purpose is to disrupt magic and as such causes damage to magical creature and has a chance to dispel magical spells or spell-like effects.
AD&D Description:
The damage done to a creature is as follows: | |
---|---|
Natural Creatures (men, lions, birds, etc) | 0 |
Slightly magical (elves, orcs, etc) | 1 |
Materially magical (hippogriffs, dragons) | 1d6 |
Cross-planar magical (undead, basilisks, etc) | 2d6 |
Extra-planar magical (Elementals, demons, etc) | 3d6 |
This damage has, as a bonus, the plus needed to hit the creature. For instance, since you need a +2 weapon to hit an Elemental, the damage that Manabane will do to one is 3d6+2. No strength bonuses apply either “to-hit” or to damage, however, the wielder need only hit AC10 (adjusted only for the target's dexterity-based defenses) to score a hit.
Any spell on the target will be dispelled as if a fifth level cleric had cast a dispel magic on it (roll the chance separately for each spell).
