Shimmer, Quantum, and Hex are on their own; 99 was missing, and Lady Paladin rushed off after getting a phone call.

The three/fifths team sees on the news that Council Crest in southwest Portland is cut off by a thick hedge of almost supernatural plant growth, and vines are snaking their way up the hundreds of feet tall KGON radio tower. When the team gets there, and is able to push through the plant growth, they see an attractive, overly manical woman seemingly controlling the plants. There are citizens around, trapped and threatened by her minions, which look like animated stumps.

The fight begins. While Quantum and Hex try to protect the bystanders, Shimmer gets captured by the villainess, Venus Flytrap. She knows what she wants, and she really takes a liking to Shimmer. Shimmer plays along, and the other two mop up the minions. Shimmer and Venus talk, and come to an understanding: if they let her go (and Shimmer goes on a date with her), she will put things back as they were. Hex is hesitant, especially since a couple of bystanders were severely injured by the stumps, but Shimmer agrees, and before Venus leaves, she actually uses a healing ability to help the injured people.

GM's Notes:

I hadn't expected the game to end that way; I want the villains to escape sometimes, but the old “teleport away at the last moment” is a bit lame. I wonder how it would have gone down if Lady Paladin were there?

Lady Paladin Responds:

Probably no different. In forty years she's seen every sort of moral compromise - she fought on the hottest fronts of the Cold War, for goodness sake! Her personal priority is protecting the vulnerable, not punishing the guilty. Shimmer had neutralized V-F - extending the fight would have just increased the danger to the bystanders..
