Boulder and the Insectoids

The Rose City Five are just settling into their new HQ and listening to news coverage of an anti-hero protest on the Burnside Bridge when they get the alert. A flatbed truck has stopped under the Burnside Bridge and a giant (50' tall) granitic humanoid has emerged from under its canvas cover. The giant is joined by four enormous flying “Insectoids” and begins climbing up the Burnside Bridge and walking towards downtown.

LP glides and Quantum flies to the site while Stan drives the others to the bridge. LP stuns herself trying to move through Boulder while the others engage the giant flies. Eventually the four flies are taken out, but LP's best attack barely fazes the rock-man and the best the party can do is slow him down. As the party is despairing of keeping the rock giant from reaching downtown, 99 realizes that the giant is vulnerable to sonic attacks. While Hex grinds his gears to make noise, LP rigs up a makeshift sonic resonance chamber and Quantum tunes his perfect-pitch voice to generate a sonic attack. Boulder is soon reduced to gravel.

The entire combat is seen by millions on live TV. The Rose City Five bursts onto the superhero world in brilliant style.

The truck is traced to “Doctor Anonymous”. The group finds this . . . .suspicious. The group also learns that Doctor Anonymous was the one who gave the Motor Jokers their powers.

GM's Notes:

I wanted to use one big monster that the heroes could barely touch, and hopefully they would be able to stop it before it made it's way across the Burnside Bridge. Boulder had really strong defenses, but a couple of vulnerabilities that could be used against it as well. I also liked using the actual images for the Burnside Bridge, but the nonstandard scale always messes everyone up. I guess we are too used to 2 meters per inch.
