Less a war and more a series of skirmishes that took place off and on throughout the 9th and 10th centuries in and around Mosamor Marsh in Southern Rota.
The “wars” ended in the year 979 when the Lizardmen signed the “Marsh Compact”. While the battles were never serious enough to threaten the kingdom of Rota, it is generally believed that the Lizardmen suffered significantly as a result of the perennial fighting. It is for this reason that they initiated diplomatic contact with the humans and negotiated a peace treaty.
The most noteable aspect of the compact is that the Lizardfolk agreed to keep the Kobold tribes in check. In exchange for this, they were allowed to keep substantial amounts of land.
To police the treaty, a pair of keeps were built – one on the coast and the other at the foot of the Den'dray Hills. These keeps have been continually manned for over a century and routinely engage in skirmishes with Goblins and – to a lesser extent – Kobolds.
Since the change in magic in 1108, the Kobold tribes have become more aggressive and some experts fear they are likely to break out from under the Lizardmen control.
