It's been a few weeks since the return from the other world, and Lady Paladin is still in Washington DC for “meetings”.
The first guest at the heroes' headquarters is a publicist, here to assist 99 in his new-found fame. Carol Isaac is a famous agent to the stars, now retired, but doing this as a personal favor to Daniel Dunlap. She looks and sounds like a Jewish grandmother, but has the smarts of a top agent, and a lot of powerful connections. She very quickly sets 99 up with everything he needs, arranging publicity, appearances, and dealings with publishers. She also has lots of ideas to help promote the team and the other heroes, but those offers don't go over very well.
The next guest is Frank Thompson, a representative of the U.S. State Department. A young man in a suit, he is here just to discuss the superhero group, and any issues that might occur with any technology that they possess, specifically concerning taking that technology out of the US. Everyone has to follow ITAR regulations.
Hex's parent company already abides by all ITAR regulations, but there were questions about Quantum's powers, and whether or not he was technology-based or organic. It appeared to be just a fact-finding task, and Quantum gave the official the answers he was looking for.
Soon after, there came a call for the heroes. It was during the annual Portland Bridge Pedal, when major bridges are closed off to allow bicyclists to ride on them. A group of bicycle-based terrorists had taken the opportunity to place bombs at the center of the Fremont Bridge, claiming it for the bicyclists. Only the heroes were able to get to the top of the bridge unnoticed, and after a short fight, the bombs were disarmed. It was pretty easy, once Hex remembered that he had knowledge of demolitions, and realized that the bombs were all fake.
I really loved the publicist character, but she seemed to raise the ire of the players. Of course, highly opinionated characters are fun to play and easy to annoy.
